Interpretation of the colors
| Scheme | Textile colour |
|---|---|
| Red | The three stars represent the three major Syrian regions (Damascus, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor) that formed the foundation of the modern Syrian state upon independence — the red color symbolizes the blood of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Syria's freedom — and the stars also symbolize the values of the Syrian Revolution: freedom, dignity, and justice. |
| White | Stands for peace and purity and symbolizes the historic Umayyad Caliphate, during which Damascus was the capital. |
| Green | Represents the Rashidun Caliphate and symbolizes hope, growth, and Syria's Arab and Islamic heritage. |
| Black | Represents periods of oppression and struggle in Syria's history while also symbolizing the Abbasid Caliphate. |
